Dear Dee-Dee

It is near impossible to find a moment to write. Peace and quiet signifies something entirely different to me now. Silence here has the dark quality of a nightmare. There is no peace in the silence, what occupies the silence and the dark is untold danger. France may as well be another world. It is another world. Skin color does not apply the way it does at home or the way it was in training. At first you feel overly cautious when people are warm because I have never experienced that feeling. I might even consider staying once the war is over. It is my prayer that one day this kind of acceptance is available at home and worldwide.
